Netflix’s upcoming series “Trigger” has unveiled tense new glimpses of Kim Nam Gil and Kim Young Kwang facing a life-or-death situation.
“Trigger” is an action-packed thriller drama set in South Korea, a country known for its strict gun control laws. The story follows two men who, for their own reasons, take up arms amidst a rising wave of illegal firearms mysteriously appearing across the nation that leads to an unprecedented surge in gun-related crimes.
Kim Nam Gil stars as Lee Do, a police officer who picks up guns once more to uphold justice, while Kim Young Kwang plays Moon Baek, a mysterious figure who aids Lee Do amid rising gun crimes while concealing his own secrets.
The newly released main poster captures Lee Do with a troubled, shaken gaze, hinting that he is facing an unexpected crisis. The image of a smoking gun, moments after someone pulls the trigger, paired with the chilling caption “What if everyone had guns?” creates a sense of intense, looming tension.
The accompanying main trailer announces the arrival of a new era in South Korea, once known as a gun-free nation. The line “At least Hell Joseon didn’t have guns” quickly becomes meaningless as gunshots ring out across the city, leaving victims in their wake. As illegal firearms disguised as parcel deliveries begin to spread, Lee Do launches an investigation to uncover the truth behind them.
Amid the chaos, Lee Do encounters the mysterious Moon Baek, who arrives to pick up a package. Moon Baek tells him, “I got a package a few days ago. It had bullets and an address list inside,” revealing a key clue in the case. The two end up teaming up to uncover the truth, while elsewhere, packages continue to be delivered to those seeking guns. The trailer shows Goo Jung Man (Park Hoon) gripping a gun and declaring, “I see this as an opportunity,” as large sums of money change hands among shadowy figures.
Can Lee Do and Moon Baek track down those distributing illegal firearms? And what choices will people make when a gun is placed in their hands?
Director Kwon Oh Seung commented, “In ‘Trigger,’ the use, meaning, and development of a gun changes depending on who holds it. Rather than asking, ‘How do you use a gun?’ the series asks, ‘Who had to pick up that gun, and why?’—that’s where its charm lies.” Co-director Kim Jae Hoon added, “’Trigger’ tells the stories of people who, for their own reasons, take up guns in a society filled with hatred and conflict, those who enable them, and those who try to make them put the guns down.”
“Trigger” will premiere on July 25.
