SBS’s upcoming comedy sports drama “The Winning Try” has dropped its second teaser!
“The Winning Try” tells the story of Joo Ga Ram (Yoon Kye Sang), a former rugby star who falls from grace due to a doping scandal. Years later, he returns to his alma mater as the new coach of its bottom-ranked high school rugby team and leads the underdog squad on a quest to win the National Sports Festival.
The newly released teaser opens with the Hanyang Physical Education High School rugby team being utterly humiliated right from the start of a match, leaving them on the brink of disbandment. Just then, someone shouts “Wait!” and appears—none other than Joo Ga Ram, the former idol of Korean rugby and a past Asian Cup MVP, who is now introduced as the team’s new coach tasked with creating a “miracle” for the struggling players.
Scenes of the unruly rugby team, long abandoned by the school’s favor, are intercut with clips of their eccentric new coach, hinting at the wild and chaotic chemistry to come. When the vice principal declares, “The rugby team is finished!”, Ga Ram fires back, “Aren’t you ashamed of picking on kids like this?” His carefree smile suggests the beginning of a rebellion that will shake up the school’s status quo.
But Ga Ram’s road ahead is anything but smooth. Team captain Yoon Sung Joon (Kim Yo Han) coldly rejects him, saying, “I don’t like you. I won’t accept you as our coach.” Meanwhile, his ex-girlfriend Bae Yi Ji (Im Se Mi) cuts him down with, “If you left like that, you shouldn’t come back. You can’t come back,” hinting at the painful past that shattered his once-glorious rugby career.
Despite the harsh reality, Ga Ram sincerely confesses, “I ruined my career myself, but these players haven’t even started yet.” As the teaser comes to a close, scenes show Ga Ram and his players gathered in the locker room, united with resolve. His voiceover declares, “Just wait and see. I’ll show you what they’re capable of,” leaving viewers eager to witness their electrifying rise from rock bottom to glory.
“The Winning Try” premieres on July 25 at 9:50 p.m. KST.
