They’ve been together for 31 years.
A famous boy group that debuted over three decades ago has abruptly announced their disbandment.

TOKIO is a Japanese rock/pop boy group that debuted 31 years ago, under the label Johnny & Associates in 1994. The group, which currently consists of three members–Joshima Shigeru, Matsuoka Masahiro, and Kokubun Taichi–announced their disbandment on June 25, 2025.

In the announcement posted on their website, TOKIO explained that they decided to disband because of one member’s behavior that damaged the group as a whole.
Due to Kokubun Taichi’s recent actions in violation of compliance, we caused considerable concern and trouble to all parties involved. We take this matter very seriously and deeply apologize.

“Given the current situation,” TOKIO wrote, “we concluded that regaining the trust and support of our fans would be extremely difficult. As such, we’ve decided to put a full stop to our group activities.”
TOKIO went on to apologize and thank their fans who have supported them for 31 years. The members have not yet announced any solo endeavors.
