One Particular Scene From “Squid Game 3” Completely Turns Off Viewers—Male Director Takes Blame

“How actually ridiculous is Squid Game?”

With the long-awaited third season finally premiering on June 27, 2025, K-Drama Squid Game has come to an end. While undoubtedly Netflix‘s most successful titles, the grand finale is now facing some backlash over how the players’ final moments played out. In fact, one particular scene from Episode 2 ended up being so far-fetched that it “completely turned off” some viewers from watching the rest of the season.

About halfway through the second episode, Player 222 (character Kim Jun Hee played by idol actress Jo Yuri) gives birth mid-game with the help of Player 149 (character Jang Geum Ja played by actress Kang Ae Sim).

One viral tweet, with 7.5M views and counting, called out how unrealistic the whole thing was:

오징어게임 ㄹㅇ 미친새끼같네 뭔 애를 5분만에 낳음? (비유 아니고 목숨을 건 게임하는 도중에 양수 터지더니 애를 슘뿡 낳음;;) pic.twitter.com/J3gPLgKCzr

How actually ridiculous is Squid Game? Like, who can give birth to a whole child in five minutes? (Not a metaphor—her water broke in the middle of a life-or-death game and she literally popped the baby out, just like that).

    — @sakchandesu/X

Viewers pointed out that, while a pregnant woman being in the games is a stretch on its own (or that the entire premise of Squid Game was overall unrealistic to begin with), the childbirth scene was botched so badly that it “showed how little the male director knows about women.”

    • “I looked up the male director and it seems like he’s unmarried… LOL. Still, there were tons of production staff involved—seeing a result like this just makes me think he really doesn’t listen to anyone.”
    • “LOOOOOL. This and the fact that Jo Yuri just starts walking right away, it’s so funny.”
    • “Seriously. This scene killed the whole series for me… What were they even trying to do?”
    • “Not sure if it’s ignorance or just being plain clueless… either way, it’s a problem.”
    • “The birth scene was already ridiculous, but her jumping rope while holding a newborn? That was insane LOL. The baby’s brain would be shaking. Even if I really give them the benefit of the doubt and say it was a super-fast labor—what about the placenta? After childbirth, lochia comes out for weeks, but here? Nothing. And how is she walking around fine right after giving birth?”
    • “I completely lost interest after that scene too. I just stopped watching LOL. I’m not even curious anymore. They totally wrecked the logic.”

    • “I was impressed by how the baby knew exactly when or when not to cry.”
    • “She literally sits right up after giving birth LOL.”
    • “Her belly didn’t even look that big, so I was totally confused when she suddenly started giving birth LOL.”
    • “Honestly, having a pregnant woman as a game participant in the first place was already such a far-fetched idea.”
    • “She’s giving birth for the first time and it only took her five minutes? LOL.”
    • “That plus the breastfeeding scene was just way too much. WTF.”
    • “Sure, once they introduced a pregnant character, it was inevitable she’d give birth. But giving birth in 5 minutes? It’s technically possible, but it felt super lazy. And since they obviously weren’t going to kill off the baby, every character’s behavior after the birth just stopped making sense.”

    • “It was so weird how she was suddenly full-term and giving birth like five days later. And then all of the characters start latching onto random things—it’s so inconsistent and illogical.”
    • “The story completely fell apart starting from the birth scene. Zero logic.”
    • “Obviously the director has never given birth, but did he not even do basic research? That’s what it felt like.”
    • “The birth scene was ridiculous, but even more absurd was the grandma suddenly doing that to her son. I mean, come on. Even having a mother and son randomly end up in the same deadly game is already a stretch LOL.”
    • “I think the whole point of that ending was to give Gi Hun a reason to keep playing + leave behind a legacy. And that legacy… is a baby??? That really showed the scriptwriter’s limits. I guess I can’t think of a better alternative than a baby, but still… I genuinely enjoyed Season 1, so I hoped they’d wrap up the series well, but I’m so disappointed.”
    • “Okay, fine. Maybe it’s possible—I had my second child come out really quickly too. But there was no aftercare, no lochia, no mention of baby diapers? I had so many questions.”

The baby goes on to become the final winner of the brual Squid Game. This “pro-life” ending has since gotten flamed for being “misogynistic.”
