GOT7’s BamBam has explored a variety of sounds during his solo career — some more successful than others. He has a new EP on the horizon and today we get the first taste of his first work under a new agency. Dancing By Myself is well-positioned for global appeal, sung in English and harnessing a light funk groove.
This isn’t the genre I immediately associate with BamBam, but it suits him. Dancing By Myself is simple and straightforward, built upon a satisfying brew of percolating percussion and rhythm guitar. We’ve heard this sound many times over, but it’s still likely to get your head nodding. Similarly, the song’s melodies are familiar but effective. What the song lacks in ambition it makes up for with charm. Thai artist TIMETHAI is a great addition, adding ultra-smooth vocals to the mix. Nothing about the track is particularly thrilling, but I’d love to hear BamBam continue to explore this sound with a greater sense of scope.
