Former singer Oh Jimin, an ex-member of the boy group BTL, recently shared his life updates after leaving the entertainment industry for a completely different line of work.
Oh appeared as a special guest in the Jung 9 episode of KBS Joy‘s talk show, Mueosideon Muleobosal. The former idol shared that he had joined the construction industry as a paint contractor and talked about his current lifestyle and fatherhood.
Oh Jimin recalled his time as a member of BTL, mentioning that they suddenly disbanded while shooting a music video for their second album. “My original dream was to be an actor. So I went to the department of theater and film to study. I then debuted as an idol, but it didn’t go well,” he admitted.
The former BTL member also mentioned that his wife got pregnant with their first child when he was unmarried and in the military. Now, they are the proud parents of a five-year-old and a 15-month-old son.
When the host Seo Jang Hoon asked him about his income, Oh responded that during the peak season, he earned between ₩12.0 million KRW (about $8,800 USD) and ₩15.0 million KRW (about $11,000 USD). However, in the off-seasons, it could drop down to ₩2.00 million KRW (about $1,470 USD). He candidly confessed that his financial situation had improved in recent times compared to when he got married. “I had nothing, so I borrowed money to start my wife’s cafe and carry out our newlywed life. We’re currently paying off the loan,” he explained.
Talking about his job satisfaction, Oh Jimin proudly announced that he was “almost 120%’” satisfied working as a paint contractor for its great work-life balance. “The best thing is that I have work-life balance and can spend time with my kids,” he added.
