His wife and his mentor helped him out.
For many couples, weddings are extravagant affairs that cost thousands of dollars and take years to save up for. Even celebrities can struggle to pay for their nuptials.

This was the case for Mark Lee, who confessed to needing help from both his mentor and his wife to cover the cost of the wedding.
Mark Lee is a veteran Singaporean comedian, actor, presenter, radio DJ, and businessman who has been in the entertainment industry for decades. Although he’s doing well now financially, that wasn’t always the case. In 2024, Lee co-starred in the Singaporean Chinese film Money No Enough 3, which was written and directed by his mentor Jack Neo.
Among other things, the film features a middle-class family that struggles to pay for a man’s wedding after his girlfriend has an unplanned pregnancy. During an interview, the film’s cast members, including Lee, discussed the financial hardships that can come with weddings. Lee revealed that when he married his wife Catherine Ng back in 1999, he had “no fame or fortune.”

Since he didn’t have enough money to pay the deposit for his wedding banquet, he borrowed some from Ng and Neo. He was able to pay back the loans, and he has gone on to have a successful entertainment career.
