She has still not regained consciousness.
A real-life story of a woman being abandoned by her husband after he found her in a life-threatening state has left the Korean public horrified.
On July 1, JTBC‘s documentary show, Amudo Mollatdeon, Behind (literally translates to Nobody Knew, Behind), unveiled the shocking story to its viewers.

The incident, which occurred in May 2023, involved a man in his 60s who suddenly found his wife in their bathroom in a collapsed state. She had thrown up blood and lost consciousness. Instead of taking any urgent action, the man chose to take a picture of his wife and sent it to his daughter. He then left to play tennis without even checking on her.

The show revealed that the fifty-something woman has since been bedridden, unconscious for two years. The daughter had to give up her job to become her full-time caregiver.

The production crew tried to find out exactly what had happened that day with the help of the daughter, who retraced her steps from two years ago. During this process, the daughter also came across some heartbreaking truths of her mother’s day-to-day life that she had kept a secret. Finally, she also confronted her father. As he explained his shocking actions from the day, narrators Lee Sang Yeob and Anna Kyung were reportedly left in tears during the recording.

The episode has left many netizens stunned, who were hearing about this absurd incident for the first time. However, some were able to recall it from years ago when the mainstream media had extensively reported on it. Back then, the husband was sent to the prosecution on charges of abandonment. During the investigation, he told the police that he left his wife alone because he didn’t want to get involved in the situation, given that he had been reported for domestic violence before.
The husband had been criminally charged with domestic violence thrice before this incident. However, in the particular incident in question, no evidence of assault was found in the medical examination of the wife’s injuries,
