Girls’ Generation’s Lim Yoona has shared her thoughts on her upcoming drama “Bon Appétit, Your Majesty”!
Based on a popular web novel, “Bon Appétit, Your Majesty” is a fantasy romance drama starring Lim Yoona as Yeon Ji Young, an award-winning French chef who winds up traveling 500 years back into the past. There, she meets despotic king Lee Heon (Lee Chae Min), who is known as the worst of tyrants—and who also happens to be a discerning gourmet.
Lim Yoona shared, “I’d always wanted to work with director Jang Tae Yoo, and I’m truly happy to be working with him for the first time through ‘Bon Appétit, Your Majesty.’”
Regarding why she chose to star in the drama, Lim Yoona explained, “I was drawn to the theme of cooking and found the character of Yeon Ji Young, who works as a chef, very appealing, so I wanted to take on the challenge [of playing her].”
As for her character’s biggest charms, she picked “charisma, wisdom, and confidence,” explaining, “Yeon Ji Young always speaks her mind clearly and chooses her own path instead of being led by others. Her wise, confident, and charismatic nature left a strong impression on me.”
On how she prepared for the character of Yeon Ji Young, Lim Yoona shared, “For about three months, I met with actual chefs and learned everything from handling cooking tools to the entire cooking process in detail. I also practiced cooking in various ways to prepare for the role.”
She continued, “I learned a new skill called flambé [a French cooking technique where alcohol is added to a dish or sauce and quickly burned off over high heat], and I think it was the technique I showcased the most [in the drama]. Thanks to that, I became more confident in cooking, and while playing Yeon Ji Young, I found myself thinking, ‘I can’t believe I can do something like this.’ It was my most impressive performance.”
Lim Yoona also revealed that she added subtle details to her styling and speech to highlight the character’s time-slip from the modern day to the past. She explained, “To clearly show the contrast between the present day and the past, I made sure to wear modern accessories like sunglasses, scarves, and earrings. I also kept Yeon Ji Young’s speech and tone confident, cheerful, and modern.”
Encouraging viewers to tune in to the drama, Lim Yoona remarked, “If you pay close attention to the beautifully shot cooking scenes and the emotions between the characters, I think you’ll be able to enjoy the drama even more. Please look forward to ‘Bon Appétit, Your Majesty.’”
“Bon Appétit, Your Majesty” will premiere on August 23 at 9:10 p.m. KST.
