Director Park Chan Wook’s new film “No Other Choice” has been invited to screen at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival!
On July 22, the executive committee of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival officially announced that the film has been invited to its main competition section.
“No Other Choice” tells the story of Man Soo (Lee Byung Hun), an office worker who once felt completely satisfied with life—until he’s suddenly laid off. Determined to protect his wife, two children, and the home they worked so hard to buy, he prepares for a personal battle to find a new job.
The Venice International Film Festival is known for spotlighting films that combine artistic merit with broad appeal. The main competition section, to which the film has been invited, is the festival’s most prestigious category and features nominees for its top awards.
The film marks the first Korean entry in the competition in 13 years, following “Pieta” in 2012, underscoring the significance of this latest achievement.
Director Park Chan Wook, who will premiere the film to the world at the Venice International Film Festival, said, “Now that the film is complete and has been invited to Venice, I realize it was the right decision not to give up on this project after all those long years.”
Lee Byung Hun said, “‘No Other Choice’ is a film I’m genuinely excited to see for myself, so I’m thrilled and honored to be heading to Venice with such an outstanding project.”
Son Ye Jin shared, “I’m incredibly moved and honored that my first international film festival is Venice. I’m thrilled to attend the Venice International Film Festival, which feels like a dream come true.”
“No Other Choice” is set to hit theaters in September. Stay tuned for updates!
