Kwak Sun Young and Lee Yi Kyung are teaming up for a special appearance in MBC’s new drama “Mary Kills People”!

A remake of the Canadian series of the same name, “Mary Kills People” stars Lee Bo Young as Woo So Jung, an ER doctor who illegally provides euthanasia for patients with incurable illnesses. Lee Min Ki plays Jo Hyun Woo, a terminal brain tumor patient with no remaining treatment options.

    Spoilers

In the first two episodes, Woo So Jung—who works tirelessly to save critically ill patients in the ER—was revealed to secretly assist in euthanasia alongside her college friend Choi Dae Hyun (Kang Ki Young). The tension escalated when Dae Hyun sought out drug dealer Goo Kwang Chul (Bek Hyunjin) and his former cellmate Kim Si Hyun (Oh Eui Sik) to obtain the drugs needed for assisted deaths.

In this week’s episodes, Kwak Sun Young and Lee Yi Kyung make their entrance as members of Goo Kwang Chul’s family, heightening the suspense. Kwak Sun Young plays Goo Hye Rim, Kwang Chul’s younger sister and the wife of businessman Geum Myung Seok (Lee Yi Kyung). Despite her ties to her brother’s dangerous dealings, Hye Rim is the picture of a devoted wife and perfect mother—raising her child with care and attending every mothers’ gathering.

Lee Yi Kyung takes on the role of Geum Myung Seok, Kwang Chul’s brother-in-law, who tries to assert his presence between his intimidating brother-in-law and his charismatic wife.

The pair will especially capture attention in a chilling, tension-filled marital exchange that hints at a darker side to their relationship. In one scene, Hye Rim, dressed in a sweet pink outfit, drapes her arm over Myung Seok’s shoulder in the kitchen. While she appears affectionate, Myung Seok looks inexplicably on edge—sparking curiosity about the story behind their contrasting expressions.

Their cameo comes from strong ties with the production team. Kwak Sun Young, who previously worked with director Park Joon Woo on “Crash,” accepted the role without hesitation, knowing Goo Hye Rim would play a pivotal part in the storyline. Lee Yi Kyung, despite his packed schedule, joined out of loyalty to his agency senior and close friend Lee Min Ki.

The production team shared, “Kwak Sun Young and Lee Yi Kyung will deliver a powerful impact in connection with Bek Hyunjin’s ultimate villain character in ‘Mary Kills People.’ Thanks to their willingness to take part, the drama’s overall quality has been elevated. Please look forward to Kwak Sun Young and Lee Yi Kyung as a delightful highlight of the show.”

The next episode of “Mary Kills People” will air on August 8 at 10 p.m. KST.
