A red flag?
A Korean man has invited heated backlash from netizens after making derogatory remarks about his wife’s previous weight gain.
The June 19 episode of JTBC‘s reality show Divorce Camp featured the much-talked-about “diet couple” that had appeared in the previous episode as well. The husband, in particular, had made some unsavory comments about his wife’s weight, including statements like, “Look at the fat folding under your chest,” “Sleeping with a woman who weighs over 90kg is extremely shameful,” and “I locked the door at night because I was scared my wife might pounce on me.”
His wife, who once weighed nearly 100kg, has undergone a terrific transformation, losing nearly 45kg. She now maintains her weight at around 52 kg.
In the latest episode, the husband made yet another inflammatory remark, stating, “Not wanting to sleep with a fat woman is the same as not wanting to sleep with a short man. I have opinions too— what’s the problem?”
He also admitted that his feelings toward his wife “didn’t start as love,” but claimed that he had grown to really love her.
His controversial remarks have invited a barrage of scathing criticism as netizens tore into the man for his insensitive bodyshaming. Many also interpreted his sentiments toward his wife as lacking sincerity.
