Labubu, the quirky monkey-like creature from the artist collective The Monsters by Kasing Lung, has become a massive pop culture phenomenon across Asia. Known for its big eyes, snaggle-toothed grin, and mischievous charm, Labubu has reached cult status with fans eagerly lining up or paying high resale prices to collect limited-edition figures. It’s not uncommon to see prices skyrocket on secondhand markets, making Labubu both a collector’s dream, and a scammer’s playground.
Unfortunately, ILLIT’s Wonhee seems to have learned that the hard way. During a recent interaction with fans, Wonhee shared that she had been scammed after trying to purchase a Labubu doll. According to the rookie idol, the box appeared completely authentic, and she even saw it in person before making the purchase. However, after taking the doll home and opening it, she realized it was a fake.
- Unnie…
- I got scammed…
- Tell me this isn’t true.

- I’m so speechless…
- I bought it after seeing it IRL…
- The box seemed real…
Fans were quick to sympathize with Wonhee, commenting on how adorable but sad her encounter was.
