Former EXO member and Chinese entertainment mogul Huang Zitao has officially responded to a growing controversy surrounding his sanitary pad brand Domyway. The issue erupted after a consumer reported discovering black specks in one of the products, prompting concern and viral discussion on Chinese social media.
On June 17, Huang Zitao took to his personal social media accounts to directly address the matter. “The black specks reported by consumers are primarily caused during the nonwoven fabric manufacturing process,” he explained. “Some fiber components carbonize under high heat, which results in tiny dark spots. These are not harmful, and testing has confirmed that no toxic substances are present.”
The image that sparked the controversy—a photo showing a pad with small dark particles—was widely circulated, raising questions about the safety and quality control of Domyway’s production process. Huang Zitao’s swift response was aimed at containing the backlash and reassuring customers.
He emphasized his commitment to transparency and consumer trust, saying, “Even the smallest issue will be taken seriously.” Huang Zitao has previously been vocal about unethical practices in the sanitary product industry, such as the reuse and repackaging of unsanitary materials. His decision to launch Domyway was driven by a desire to raise standards and offer a trustworthy alternative.
Despite the controversy, Domyway remains a massive commercial success. The brand made headlines last month by generating $3 million USD in just 30 minutes during a live broadcast. It has now sold over 100 million units a remarkable achievement for a product launched by a male celebrity in a female-dominated category.
Huang Zitao, who departed from EXO in 2015, is now a highly influential figure in China with more than 66 million followers on Weibo. He recently made headlines again by marrying former SM trainee Xu Yiyang, adding to his already high public profile.
