Just two weeks into Mnet’s “BOYS II PLANET K,” the show has already eliminated 28 of its 80 contestants.
On July 24, “BOYS II PLANET K” aired its second episode, with the second episode of “BOYS II PLANET C” set to follow on July 25.
“BOYS II PLANET K” and “BOYS II PLANET C” were originally intended to air as two separate audition programs, with each show debuting its own boy group. However, Mnet later changed the format so that as the competition progresses, the two narratives will eventually converge into one, ultimately leading to the debut of a single boy group instead of two separate groups. After two weeks of separate broadcasts, “BOYS II PLANET” will merge into a single show starting next Thursday.
During the second episode of “BOYS II PLANET K,” the surviving contestants participated in a “Signal Song Test” that resulted in the next round of eliminations. During the test, all of the contestants were ranked as either “ALL STAR,” “TWO STAR,” “ONE STAR,” or “NO STAR,” and the contestants that were ranked “NO STAR” were sent home.
The “Signal Song Test” rankings were determined 70 percent by the celebrity masters’ evaluations and 30 percent based on the views and likes amassed by each contestants’ individual evaluation video on both YouTube and the Mnet Plus app. The tracking period for the evaluation videos began on June 13 at 6 p.m. KST and ended on June 15 at 10 a.m. KST.
