Multiple K-Pop concerts have been cancelled in the last few months. Koreaboo 14 minutes ago Following shutdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of artists touring has surpassed the pre-pandemic numbers. In the last few months, numerous artists have launched global tours or have plans to do so in the coming months. BTS Reportedly To Hold 65 Concerts Next Year, Triggers Backlash Online However, there have been some issues with these tours, including low ticket sales, which have sparked debates about the cause. For example, RIIZE recently cancelled their concert in Atlanta, with the decision being attributed to low…
More and more with K-pop, we’re seeing a rift form between acts who primarily target Asian markets and those making a bigger push toward Western audiences. Ideally, artists would simply release great music that appeals to everyone, but it’s not uncommon for a performer to release English-language material and tour it extensively in the States. Such is the case with Wonho, whose full-length English-language album is out now. After several pre-releases, If You Wanna acts as the album’s lead single. It’s everything you would expect from a solo male K-pop artist in 2025, which is to say it borrows heavily…
A couple of weeks ago, Lucy released an OST that captured my attention. I love when the group colors slightly outside genre lines, bringing in electronic elements to compliment their existing tone. For a few years now, the band’s work has threatened to congeal into one single sound, struggling to find the killer melodies that let each song stand as its own classic. New single Where’s Your Love (사랑은 어쩌고) is another example of Lucy being Lucy, but does it boast any unique features that would set it apart from past tracks? No, not really. A casual listener would have…
It’s a day of boy group dancefloor thumpers, with both 82MAJOR and Close Your Eyes releasing talk-heavy dance tracks. 82MAJOR are more closely associated with hip-hop, so while this transformation makes sense it’s still a notable change in production style. Trophy (트로피) is still very much a hip-hop track but with added club bounce. This works to the group’s advantage, as they’re given opportunity to showcase both their flow and vocals. And, it appeals to listeners like me who are sick of rap being automatically tied to overused trap beats. With that said, Trophy suffers from the same issue that…
Choerry’s Pressure completes the run of Odd Eye Circle solo tracks that began with Kim Lip’s Can You Entertain. These songs have existed in similar sonic territory — vaguely nostalgic but mostly smooth and stylish. However, the music has become less interesting with each track and Pressure is the least notable of the bunch. While the other two solos harnessed elements of new jack swing, Pressure is much more modern in approach. It favors a combination of shuffling percussion under languid synth. It’s moody but otherwise quite forgettable. The song’s melodies support this approach, unfurling without landing a single knockout…
Over the past seven months, I’ve grown to love Close Your Eyes for their distinct sound and fantastic creative direction. This year’s male rookie groups have done a great job carving out their own niche in the market and although Close Your Eyes have played within different genres their vocal color and quirkiness has made them instantly identifiable. That signature sound gets a huge test with pre-release SOB, which sounds like nothing they’ve ever recorded before. SOB is a collaboration with Kazakh DJ/producer Imanbek and sees the group targeting an edgy dance sound. Their discography is in need of more…
Netflix has unveiled new gripping stills of its upcoming series “As You Stood By.” Adapted from Hideo Okuda’s critically acclaimed novel “Naomi and Kanako,” “As You Stood By” follows two women who are driven to the brink, facing an inescapable reality that forces them to consider murder as their only way out. The drama will be directed by Lee Jung Rim, who directed “VIP” and “Revenant.” The newly released stills capture the shifting emotions of the characters in striking detail. Jo Eun Su (Jeon So Nee), a capable assistant manager on a luxury department store’s VIP team, displays a wide…
