Ahn Hyo Seop and Lee Min Ho have opened up about the complex dynamics between their “Omniscient Reader” characters!
Based on the popular web novel of the same name, “Omniscient Reader” will tell the story of Kim Dok Ja (Ahn Hyo Seop), who suddenly finds himself living in the world of a fantasy novel he was reading. Armed with the knowledge of what happened in the novel, Kim Dok Ja sets out to save the world from ending. Lee Min Ho stars as Yoo Joong Hyuk, the protagonist from the novel that Kim Dok Ja read.
In the drama, Kim Dok Ja finally meets Yoo Joong Hyuk, the hero he had admired since his school days, but their encounter is far from ideal. Kim Dok Ja approaches him with a cynical attitude, while Yoo Joong Hyuk finds it difficult to trust this mysterious man who tries to guide the story in unfamiliar directions.
Speaking about their complex relationship, Ahn Hyo Seop explained, “To Kim Dok Ja, Yoo Joong Hyuk represents the person he always aspired to be, so he probably deeply admired and supported him from the bottom of his heart.”
He continued, “But Yoo Joong Hyuk has developed his own rigid worldview after countless regressions. It’s in these differences that the conflict between the two characters arises. If viewers focus on the broader questions—‘What are Kim Dok Ja and Yoo Joong Hyuk thinking, what are they striving for, and how are they trying to achieve it?’— they’ll be able to immerse themselves even more in the story.”
Lee Min Ho also offered insights into his character’s dynamic with Kim Dok Ja. He said, “When someone like Kim Dok Ja, who intrigues him, appears, testing him feels like the most natural response for Yoo Joong Hyuk to make. As Kim Dok Ja navigates the world, Yoo Joong Hyuk grows increasingly intrigued by him, and their relationship evolves into a unique bond where they observe one another.”
“Omniscient Reader” will premiere on July 23.
