Some of these popular shows don’t live up to the hype, according to viewers.

When an exciting, new show is announced, K-Drama fans eagerly add it to their watch lists. Unfortunately, some popular series fell flat for viewers in June. Here are 5 of them.

    1. Squid Game 3

Squid Game 3, the final season of the grim, bloody series that took the world by storm in 2021, aired on June 27 on Netflix. It picks up where Squid Game 2 left off, following the Squid Game players as they try to survive deadly games–and the traitor in their midst.

According to some disgruntled viewers, the ending was lackluster and unsatisfactory. Some were especially put off by a possible American spinoff that was teased at the very end.

    2. Our Movie

Our Movie began airing on June 13. This melodrama follows a film director and an aspiring actress who begin to fall in love on set while dealing with personal struggles behind the scenes.

The show’s low ratings prompted a harsh review by TenAsia, which received a scathing response from the male lead, actor Namgoong Min.

The show recorded a viewership rating of 3.0% that day. This marks a 1.2 percentage point drop from the previous 4.2%. Compared to the final episode of the previous K-Drama The Haunted Palace, which hit 11%, it didn’t even manage to reach a third of that.

He shared a screenshot of the article and addressed the criticism directly.

Despite the eye-catching headline, I can tell you actually watched our show, thank you so much.

Even though our ratings are currently low, I still have full confidence. So please, just keep watching with interest until episode 5. And if there’s still no clear turnaround by then, feel free to scold me even harsher than calling it a ‘humiliating last place.’ It will be my responsibility.

    3. Mercy For None

This gritty Netflix K-Drama began airing on June 6. It follows a former gangster who is determined to uncover the truth behind his brother’s death — and exact revenge.

Some viewers found the show unrealistic and weren’t impressed by the big reveal.

    4. Tastefully Yours

Opposites attract in Tastefully Yours, an ENA K-Drama set in the culinary world. It follows the heir to a food company, who, despite his role, isn’t much of a foodie, and a cook who is passionate about cooking. The show began airing on May 12.

Some viewers felt that the show didn’t live up to its potential and that the writing left much to be desired.

    5. Dear Hongrang

This historical romance began airing on Netflix on May 16. It follows a mysterious man who returns to his family after a decade. Is he the real Hongrang, a long-lost heir suffering from amnesia, or a total stranger? Dear Hongrang promises mystery, romance, secrets, and a taste of the past.

For some viewers, the show started off strong but went downhill after Episode 4.
