She called out their discrimination.
The art director of Netflix‘s global hit animated action-comedy, KPop Demon Hunters, has publicly called out an executive for discrimination during the film’s production.
Celine Dahyeu Kim, the art director of the movie, recently made a public post slamming a Sony executive. While responding to fan queries about a possible sequel to the movie, she posted an image of a crying animated character and wrote, “This was exactly how I looked when I left the company,” and added that even if there is a sequel, she wouldn’t be called back to work on it.
Kim further explained that she left the company because a “high-ranking official in the production” had repeatedly made outrageous remarks dismissing her work and even subjected her to discriminatory behavior. She added that the discrimination was directed at the entire art team, including the production designer and character art director, both of whom also left the company.
However, Kim also mentioned that the entire company was not at fault but rather the specific individual. She emphasized that the other executives had listened to her complaint and supported her.
Despite the difficulties, Kim expressed her pride in the movie and hoped that people could enjoy it despite her revelation.
I hope this thread never affects your enjoyment of the movie. More than 90% of my efforts were wonderfully expressed in the movie, and as you can see in the ending credits, it is a meaningful work created by hundreds of people coming together with one heart and one mind.
— Celine Dahyeu Kim
According to media reports, the Sony official that Kim was talking about had eventually resigned from the company. Kim wrote that she never wished to cross paths with them again.
