The cast of “Omniscient Reader” has dished on their characters!
Based on the popular web novel of the same name, “Omniscient Reader” will tell the story of Kim Dok Ja (Ahn Hyo Seop), who suddenly finds himself living in the world of a fantasy novel he was reading. Armed with the knowledge of what happened in the novel, Kim Dok Ja sets out to save the world from ending. Lee Min Ho stars as Yoo Joong Hyuk, the protagonist from the novel that Kim Dok Ja read.
The commentary video begins with lead actor Ahn Hyo Seop sharing, “I wanted to express an ordinariness that everyone can relate to.” The director further praises that he thought Ahn Hyo Seop is a great fit for the role as he is an actor with both universality and unique characteristics. Ahn Hyo Seop remarks, “As the characters each mature in their own way and upgrade their weapons, I feel as if we will all root [for the characters] together.”
Regarding his character Yoo Joong Hyuk, Lee Min Ho comments, “His biggest skill is ‘regression.’ Even when he dies, he is revived, living a life like an immortal being.” He continues, “Yoo Joong Hyuk has to feel real so that [the journey] Dok Ja and his companions experience feels persuasive,” saying how he paid attention to the character’s action, gaze, and expression.
Chae Soo Bin, who plays Dok Ja’s coworker and companion Yoo Sang Ah, describes her character’s charm, saying, “She is the most realistic character. She acts as a stepping stone for other characters.”
Shin Seung Ho, who transforms into former military soldier Lee Hyun Sung, remarks, “He’s full of justice and passion, and he is a figure who will give great strength to Dok Ja. He’s like a tanker. I think I paid attention to his expression and movements.”
Nana, who takes on the role of Jung Hee Won, shares, “Her main weapon is a dagger, she’s agile, and she showcases fancy action.” Talking about the action scene, Nana comments, “It was so fun and also so difficult, so it felt really great.”
BLACKPINK’s Jisoo, who takes on the role of Lee Ji Hye, shares, “I think I discussed a lot about how the character Ji Hye has lived until now. I wanted to show that she is a character who overcomes situations very well.”
Kwon Eun Seong also introduces his character Lee Gil Young, sharing, “Gil Young is a character who survives thanks to Dok Ja’s help and clears scenarios together with him. Gil Young has the ability to communicate with insects.”
