MBC’s upcoming remake of “Mary Kills People” has confirmed its premiere date and shared a glimpse of its first script reading session!

“Mary Kills People” follows the story of Woo So Jung (Lee Bo Young), a doctor who illegally assists terminally ill patients with euthanasia, and a detective who tracks down her illegal activities.

The script reading was attended by director Park Joon Woo and cast members Lee Bo Young, Lee Min Ki, Kang Ki Young, Baek Hyun Jin, Kwon Hae Hyo, Kim Tae Woo, Seo Young Hee, Tae Hang Ho, Yoon Ga Yi, Yoo Seung Mok, Shim So Young, Kim Sang Ji, and Kang Na Eon.

Lee Bo Young impressed as Woo So Jung, delivering a performance that captured both the strength of her beliefs and the deep inner conflict of an emergency physician who helps hopeless patients at the edge of life and death. From her tone to her gaze, every detail conveyed the emotional weight of her character’s struggle.

Lee Min Ki brought Jo Hyun Woo, a terminal cancer patient, to life with quiet intensity. His calm, measured delivery reflected a man weary from his battle with life, while his piercing eyes conveyed the agony of confronting mortality.

Kang Ki Young stars as Choi Dae Hyun, a former plastic surgeon whose license has been revoked. A longtime friend of Woo So Jung, he assists her in helping patients with euthanasia. Kang Ki Young masterfully balanced warmth and seriousness, bringing humor at just the right moments and acting as a tension-breaker who skillfully managed the drama’s emotional beats.

Baek Hyun Jin takes on the role of Goo Kwang Chul, a mysterious businessman with hidden secrets. Kwon Hae Hyo plays Father Yang, the warm-hearted head of a free clinic. Kim Tae Woo portrays Ahn Tae Sung, the national police chief, while Seo Young Hee plays Ryu Yi Soo, a talented lawyer and So Jung’s neighbor. Yoon Ga Yi appears as nurse Choi Ye Na, Yoo Seung Mok as Assemblyman Baek, Shim So Young as the head nurse, Kim Sang Ji as So Jung’s niece Jae Yeon, and Kang Na Eon as Jae Yeon’s friend Woo Mi.

Watch a behind-the-scenes video of the script reading below!

“Mary Kills People” is set to premiere on August 1 at 10 p.m. KST.
