TWICE‘s Hirai Momo recently shared her candid thoughts on participating in the mega crew mission alongside Osaka Ojo Gang on Mnet’s World Street Woman Fighter. She addressed fans’ questions via the Bubble app, including why only the “unnie line” (Momo, Sana, Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Jihyo) appeared on the show.
According to Momo, the invitation came from Osaka Ojo Gang, who expressed interest in having them join. “I asked all the members, but we were really busy individually, so it ended up being just the unnie line,” she explained. “Despite our packed schedules, the older members stepped up, and I gave it my all too.”
She continued, “The members worried a lot it’s a competition, and they were concerned our appearance might affect the dancers. Still, everyone worked hard and I did my best.”
Reflecting on the public’s reaction, Momo admitted, “But after it aired yesterday, I thought: ‘They’re popular now, so maybe we shouldn’t have appeared.’ For me, it was meaningful because we were with the older sisters. Osaka Ojo Gang wanted us, so I asked the members if they could come along. They said yes.” She emphasized that both Osaka Ojo Gang and TWICE members poured their hearts into the performance.
The mega crew mission video, released on June 18 via the YouTube channel The Choom, showcased a grand performance featuring Osaka Ojo Gang, with TWICE‘s unnie line joining as special dancers. Momo also performed a duet with her real-life older sister, Hana, a member of the crew, which attracted significant attention.
However, after the video’s release, some netizens criticized its focus: “TWICE got too much screen time,” “It feels like the dancers are backup,” and “I thought it was a TWICE MV.” In response, Momo has opened up about the decision to participate and shared her honest reflections.
Jihyo, who also took part in the mission, revealed the pressure they felt, “(Before it aired) we kept worrying, ‘What if we mess things up for them?’”
Despite the backlash, both Momo and her fellow members emphasized their dedication and respect for the project, showing support for the Osaka Ojo Gang crew.
