Legendary Girl Group Tickets Cause Police Investigation Launch

A young man was scammed while trying to buy tickets.

The police have launched an investigation after a Hong Kong man in his twenties was scammed while trying to buy BLACKPINK concert tickets.

The man lost HK$ $4900 ($624.23 USD) while trying to buy two tickets to the BLACKPINK concert scheduled in Hong Kong next year.

According to a report by Hong Kong media outlet SCMP, the Hong Kong police received 200 reports of online shopping fraud last week.

The National Police Agency’s anti-fraud Facebook page CyberDefender, victims were scammed a total of about ₩900 million KRW (about $659,000 USD) with this incident.

Previously, the Hong Kong police posted a warning on the Facebook page, urging residents to be especially cautious when making online purchases.

In particular, they mentioned the case of a 25-year-old man who was scammed while trying to buy BLACKPINK tickets.

The victim found two BLACKPINK tickets being sold on the Threads platform and contacted the seller through the Instagram account. The victim sent HK$ 4,900 (~$624.23 USD) to receive the QR code for the concert e-ticket, but did not receive anything.

With this, the police advised shoppers to check the seller’s account information thoroughly, and if possible, to make transactions in person. They also recommended canceling transactions if there was anything suspicious.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK will hold concerts in Hong Kong in January next year.
