Netizens are furious.
Two participants in the current season of Street Woman Fighter are facing massive backlash from Korean netizens after being caught promoting a symbol that is considered massively offensive in the country.
The backlash started when netizens discovered that Kyoka, a dancer from the OSAKA Ojo Gang that represents Japan on the MNET show, had been photographed wearing a t-shirt with the rising sun flag on it. The symbol is widely looked down upon in Korea and other parts of Asia, as it was the emblem of the Imperial Japanese military.

The picture went viral on Korean online communities, where netizens responded with fury.

- “This is shocking…I really liked her as a dancer.”
- “I f*cking hate this.”
- “This is why I keep saying you can’t fangirl over a Japanese person.”

- “So please stop bringing Japanese people on Korean shows to promote them.”
- “Kyoka’s popularity is insane, though?”
- “At this point, a Japanese person being ignorant doesn’t even surprise me.”
The controversy was further amplified by a resurfaced picture posted by Riehata, another prominent dancer on the show who belonged to the RHTokyo crew. The photo in question featured the same rising sun flag in the background as a wall art.

This controversy has added to the already heated atmosphere surrounding the public reception of this season of Street Woman Fighter. You can read more about their last controversy here:
