A woman in her 20s, who was previously reported to have extracted ₩300 million KRW (about $222,000 USD) from national soccer team captain Son Heung Min by threatening to expose that she was pregnant with his child, was found to have previously attempted a similar scheme with another man before targeting Son.
On June 10, 2025, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office’s Criminal Division 3 announced that they have indicted the woman, surnamed Yang, n charges of blackmail, and a man surnamed Yong, in his 40s, on charges of attempted blackmail.
According to the prosecution, Yang initially told another man who was not Son that she was pregnant and attempted to demand money from him. When he did not respond, she gave up and then proceeded to target Son, falsely claiming she was pregnant with his child to demand money.
The prosecution further claimed that she had spent all the money extorted from Son Heung Min on luxury goods and other personal expenses. When she once again faced financial hardship, she conspired with Yong, who was her then-boyfriend, to again try to extort money from Son.
Initially, it was reported that Yong acted alone in demanding an additional ₩70.0 million KRW (about $51,800 USD) from Son after learning about the previous extortion. However, prosecutors have confirmed that this attempt was also carried out in collusion with Yang.
Yang, Son’s former girlfriend, is accused of blackmailing him last June by sending him an ultrasound image of a fetus and threatening to reveal her alleged pregnancy, resulting in Son handing over approximately ₩300 million KRW (about $222,000 USD). During this exchange, Yang wrote a written statement pledging not to disclose the pregnancy to anyone. However, in March of this year, she allegedly conspired with Yong, with whom she had entered a romantic relationship, and attempted to approach Son again to demand an additional ₩70.0 million KRW (about $51,800 USD) — but the attempt failed.
