Mnet‘s Boys II Planet was recently called out after fans realized that they had not only done their usual evil editing, but they had also made use of their victim in another sense.
One of the trainees, Yichen, had been singled out for allegedly constantly being absent at group practices. The show highlighted this with the caption. “A situation where they can’t practice without Yichen.”
This painted Yichen in a bad light, with fans of the other members blaming him for the group’s slow progress. Later on, the show claimed that he was seen strolling around the premises, even sitting with the other groups.
Fans did a little sleuthing and later realized that while he had been absent from practice at times, it was only because the production team had asked him to translate for them! Yichen is fluent in both Korean and Mandarin, a valuable asset on the show that combines trainees from Korea and China.
Other trainees also admitted that he had been a big help.
Someone asked hong zhihan if yichen ever done any translating for c trainees and he said “yes, yichen has helped us out with translation” 😆 pic.twitter.com/xUxUcoJF8F

In light of the news, many are criticizing Mnet for not only making him a victim of evil editing, but also making use of his skills.

- They made him translate for free, but they’re evil editing him LOL.
- Mnet pulled an Mnet…
- Wow, isn’t it basically work-fraud for them to not even have a translator? The trainees must’ve been at a loss because you need basic communication to do anything at all.
- Is Mnet so poor that they can’t even hire a translator?
Yichen previously gained attention for being a descendant of a war hero. You can read more about him below.
