ENA’s upcoming drama “The Defects” has unveiled new stills of Choi Young Joon and Dex!
Based on a popular webtoon, “The Defects” is an action thriller about children who have been abandoned by their adoptive parents—and their fight for survival and revenge. Choi Young Joon and Dex will play Woo Tae Sik and Jung Hyun, two characters shaped by conflicting beliefs and goals.
In a newly released still from the drama, Choi Young Joon captures Woo Tae Sik’s fierce determination to protect the children with a single glance. His expression, which is layered with complex emotions, offers a glimpse of his powerful performance, which will serve as a steady anchor for the drama.
In contrast, Dex’s character Jung Hyun is the de facto leader of an illegal adoption ring, and he builds tension with a sharp, piercing gaze and commanding presence. Taking on his first action role, Dex will breathe life into the character with his raw instincts and fast-paced physicality.
The opposing attitudes of the two characters toward the “refunded” children set the stage for a gripping conflict between one who seeks to protect and another who aims to eliminate. This clash will extend beyond a simple good-versus-evil dynamic, offering deeper emotional and thematic layers, and the powerful performances by both actors will drive this conflict to its peak.
The action in the drama will also serve a purpose beyond visual spectacle: both actors approached it as an extension of their emotional performances, using it to enrich their portrayal of their characters and deepen the overall narrative.
Choi Young Joon remarked, “I thought action was a key pillar of the project,” explaining that he used his physical movements to reveal his character’s dual nature. Meanwhile, Dex said, “Since Jung Hyun is a human weapon, it was important to show rough, instinctive action.”
“The Defects” is set to premiere on July 21 at 10 p.m. KST.
