MBC’s upcoming drama “Mary Kills People” has unveiled intriguing new posters!
“Mary Kills People” follows the story of Woo So Jung (Lee Bo Young), an ER doctor who illegally assists terminally ill patients with euthanasia, and a detective who tracks her down. Lee Min Ki plays Jo Hyun Woo, a terminal cancer patient with no remaining treatment options.
Kang Ki Young takes on the role of Choi Dae Hyun, a former plastic surgeon who supports Woo So Jung in her work, showing both warmth and seriousness.
The drama draws attention with two duo posters featuring Lee Bo Young with Lee Min Ki as well as Lee Bo Young with Kang Ki Young. The posters highlight the emotional contrast involved in choosing death, expressed through the spectrum of their relationships. Standing precariously on the boundary between life and death, the three characters, caught between conflict and cooperation, are depicted in two posters with subdued color tones and distinct compositions.
The duo poster featuring Woo So Jung and Jo Hyun Woo captures the subtle conflict between absolute trust and compassion that exists between a doctor who provides medical aid in dying and a patient facing the decision to end their life. With their eyes locked in a clear gaze, Woo So Jung and Jo Hyun Woo appear wrapped in a whirlwind of complex emotions.
In particular, Jo Hyun Woo’s question, “Why do you do this kind of work, helping people who are dying?” reflects his confused emotions. However, the steady gaze shared between Woo So Jung and Jo Hyun Woo reveals not just opposition but also a quiet sense of empathy and understanding.
In another duo poster, Woo So Jung and Choi Dae Hyun stand side by side, creating a sense of teamwork as they move forward in the same direction. Woo So Jung looks straight ahead, reflecting on the burden of assisting in medical aid in dying, while Choi Dae Hyun watches her quietly, showing his firm resolve with the line, “We do not need to feel guilty about what we do.” Their shared role as partners in the controversial practice of medical aid in dying builds curiosity about the path they will take together.
The production team said, “The two duo posters visually capture the stark contrast in relationships between Lee Bo Young, who helps guide the choice of death at the boundary between life and death, and Lee Min Ki and Kang Ki Young, who are each connected to her for different reasons.”
They added, “Please follow the turbulent fate of Lee Bo Young, Lee Min Ki, and Kang Ki Young, whose emotional contrast between desperate choices and meaningful cooperation creates distinctly different moods of resolve.”
“Mary Kills People” is set to premiere on August 1 at 10 p.m. KST.
