“Omniscient Reader” has taken viewers for a behind-the-scenes look at the set!
Based on the popular web novel of the same name, “Omniscient Reader” will tell the story of Kim Dok Ja (Ahn Hyo Seop), who suddenly finds himself living in the world of a fantasy novel he was reading. Armed with the knowledge of what happened in the novel, Kim Dok Ja sets out to save the world from ending. Lee Min Ho stars as Yoo Joong Hyuk, the protagonist from the novel that Kim Dok Ja read.
In the newly released behind-the-scenes production video, the director gets candid about the concern of getting viewers immersed into the film due to all the fantasy elements, especially as “Omniscient Reader” contains many elements of VFX (visual effects).
Art director Lee Mok Won explains, “There has to be context and logic for a realistic space to become a space of fantasy.” The art director further talks about using a steel frame and balloons to create a large air mat-like structure to portray the inside of a sea serpent.
Martial arts director Jung Yoon Heon also elaborates on the different types of actions the characters perform. He shares, “In the case of Dok Ja, rather than technique, we researched a lot of movements in which he struggled to overcome a situation in a realistic way.” He continued, “With Yoo Joong Hyuk, we tried to design cool action to fit the powerful character. Actor Lee Min Ho became immersed into his character and suggested a lot of ideas. ”
The inspiration for Yoo Sang Ah’s (Chae Soo Bin) character came from the Cat’s Cradle string game, while they focused on Lee Hyun Sung’s (Shin Seung Ho) powerful nature and tried to make Jung Hee Won’s (Nana) action scenes extravagant yet crude at the same time.
Filming director Jeon Hye Jin further talks about using many solo shots of Kim Dok Ja to give the perspective of him telling his secrets to the viewers.
