The series is based on a novel of the same name by Nong Jian Xiaohao.
BL (boy love) as a drama genre has grown in popularity over the last few years, with more countries airing different series. Several countries, including Taiwan, have developed a reputation for creating more series than others.
This also includes taking on different tropes in series, including some only seen in written works previously, like the Thai series Pit Babe.
Pit Babe‘s adaptation dipped into the Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics universe, also known as the Omegaverse or A/B/O in fanfiction spaces. In Omegaverse works, in addition to the biological sex traits humans have, an additional secondary sex trait is given. These secondary sex traits — Alpha, Beta, and Omega—have different attributes when it comes to reproduction and behaviors, including reproduction cycles (“heats” and “ruts”) and scent (pheromones).
Omegaverse is said to have first been featured in fanfiction of the television series Supernatural and gained popularity through other series, especially those including werewolves, as the concept takes some ideas from the mythological creatures.

However, where Pit Babe did not go as far as viewers hoped, a new series seems lined up to do so.
On July 12, Desire The Series premiered its first two episodes, after anticipation was built from previews.
A mysterious virus has swept across the country, causing the entire population to develop sub-genders that affect their reproductive organs and pheromonal attraction. Most people fall into alpha, beta, or omega categories, but rare outliers exist. Alpha Sheng Shao You the head of a leading biopharmaceutical company, has heard rumors of an “enigma” sub-gender that supersedes even an alpha’s power, but believes that it’s nothing more than gossip. During a business meeting with a corporate rival, he meets omega Hua Yong, and after learning that he’s in a precarious financial situation, Shao You decides to support Hua Yong, despite his objections. Shao You and Hua Yong quickly find that they’re intensely attracted to each other – however, Hua Yong is hiding a secret that could change everything about their relationship.

Based on previews of the show, which has called itself the “World’s First Omegaverse MPREG Drama Series”, the series will include many of the typical features found in Omegaverse works, including the usage of suppressants, which suppress aspects of the secondary gender, and even male pregnancy. It also includes a less common secondary gender known as Enigma.
