Won Jin Ah Talks About Working With Yum Jung Ah For Upcoming Drama “The Defects”

Won Jin Ah has shared her thoughts on her upcoming drama “The Defects”!

Based on a popular webtoon, “The Defects” is an action thriller about children who have been abandoned by their adoptive parents—and their fight for survival and revenge. Yum Jung Ah will star as Kim Se Hee, the chairwoman of a major hospital and the head of a charitable foundation, who secretly runs an illegal adoption ring based on the twisted belief that only superior genes deserve to survive.

Won Jin Ah will star as Kim Ah Hyun, a girl who was returned after being adopted and nearly lost her life, but miraculously managed to survive. Kim Ah Hyun becomes the leader and emotional anchor of the surviving children, and her desperate fight for revenge and survival leads her to discover a shocking and unexpected truth.

When asked why she had decided to star in the drama, Won Jin Ah shared, “I was drawn to the story of children searching for hope about life as humans, rather than some great purpose or price.” She also noted that it was her first time taking on the action genre, commenting, “I had a dream of trying the action genre, and I’m so grateful that I was able to do it meaningfully in such a great drama with wonderful actors.”

Describing her character, Won Jin Ah remarked, “Ah Hyun was abandoned by her parents at a young age, and together with her found family of younger siblings that went through the same thing, she puts her life on the line to fight for freedom. She’s a strong character.”

“Because this was my first action project, not only my interpretation of the character but also my action teamwork [with the other actors] was very important,” she continued. “Acting and sweating together with the other actors while trusting one another was a really special experience.”

When asked to sum up the character of Kim Ah Hyun in three words, Won Jin Ah chose “responsibility,” “perseverance,” and “courage.” “She feels responsible for protecting the younger children, and she doesn’t give up even in the most difficult of situations,” explained the actress. “I also thought her determination to find [the true culprit], no matter how powerful and terrifying that opponent might be, was truly courageous.”

Won Jin Ah also spoke enthusiastically about her experience working with her co-stars on set, recalling, “[Our teamwork] was so great. I became close with the other actors really quickly, as if we’d known each other from a long time ago, and we always stayed right by each other’s sides on set.”

“In particular, Yum Jung Ah—unlike her character in the drama—really took care of me like a dependable older sister,” she went on. “She always worried about me and bought me lots of delicious food. Except for when we were acting, the set was always full of laughter, so I think I’ll remember [my experience during filming] for a long time.”

“I’m looking forward to the drama because I think it’ll showcase new sides of the actors, including me,” concluded Won Jin Ah. “Please give it lots of interest and anticipation.”

“The Defects” will premiere on July 21 at 10 p.m. KST.
