Chinese actor Wang An Yu has been steadily winning fans over with his charming performances. Over the last few years, he’s proven just how versatile he is, taking on all kinds of roles across different genres. But there’s something about him in romance dramas that just hits differently. His latest series, “Be Passionately In Love,” co-starring Liu Hao Cun, has only added to his popularity. Viewers can’t stop raving about his natural chemistry with his co-star and his ability to bring every character to life. If you’ve recently discovered Wang An Yu and can’t get enough of him, you’re in luck. Here are five must-watch dramas starring the actor that prove why he’s one of C-drama’s stand-out stars.

    “Such A Good Love”

In 1980s Beijing, life is anything but easy. The city was changing, fast and uncertain, and for two young dreamers, it is all about survival and love. Zhou Shui (Wang An Yu) is sharp-minded but constantly down on his luck. Dai Da Ji (Wang Yu Wen) is warm-hearted and unwavering, a quiet source of strength. Together, they squeeze into a cramped rental apartment, counting every penny. But even in those tight, unforgiving spaces, they never skimp on love. It’s a love that’s messy, patient, and hopeful — a bond built not on grand gestures but shared struggle and small joys. And through all of it, their connection feels unshakable.

Fast-forward to the early 2000s, and we see a millennial couple stumble upon remnants of this old romance: weathered letters, faded photographs, and the trace of something powerful and real. As they piece together Zhou Shui and Da Ji’s story, they’re left with questions. Can love like that still exist today?

This story isn’t just about two people in love. It’s about love itself — what it meant, what it means now, and whether it’s still worth everything we once gave for it.

    “Romance in the Alley”

5 Must-Watch Wang An Yu C-Dramas to Add to Your List If You’re Hooked After ‘Be Passionately In Love’

Based on the web novel Xiao Xiang Ren Jia by Da Mi, this drama is set in the late 1970s in a small neighborhood near a cotton mill in Suzhou. It follows the lives of two families, the Zhuangs and the Lins, who become neighbors as their lives become quietly intertwined. When China reinstates the national college entrance exams after years of turmoil, education suddenly becomes a top priority for every household. Zhuang Chao Ying (Guo Xiao Dong), a strict school teacher, and his wife, Huang Ling (Yan Ni), hold firm, old-fashioned beliefs and expect nothing less than perfection from their children, Zhang Tu Nan (Fan Cheng Cheng) and Xiao Ting (Guan Xiao Tong). Next door, Lin Wu Feng (Li Guang Jie) and Song Ying (Jiang Din) start off more easygoing but soon fall into the same cycle of academic pressure, urging their son, Lin Dong Zhe (Wang An Yu), to keep up.

When China’s economic reforms begin, the Lins choose to leave for Guangzhou, hoping for a better future. The move separates childhood friends Xiao Ting and Dong Zhe, but their bond only deepens with distance. By the time they reunite in college, a friendship slowly blossoms into love, though not without obstacles. Family expectations, long-distance struggles, and the realities of adulthood test them at every turn. But somehow, they keep finding their way back to each other.

Meanwhile, Zhuang Tu Nan’s path takes an unexpected turn when he falls for Li Jia (Lu Yu Xiao), proving that even in uncertain times, love finds its own way.

    “To Fly With You”

5 Must-Watch Wang An Yu C-Dramas to Add to Your List If You’re Hooked After ‘Be Passionately In Love’

It is a sweet sports romance set in the world of competitive skating. Shen Zheng Yi (Song Zu Er) has always had a love for ice skating, but it’s during a winter sports meet that she discovers her true passion: short-track speed skating. Despite her mother’s disapproval, Zheng Yi is determined to go professional and has her sights set on the prestigious Zhufeng Sports Club. With no formal training under her belt, she faces gruelling physical challenges, emotional hurdles, and the weight of family expectations just to make the cut. And once she does, the journey is far from over. Along the way, she crosses paths with Shao Bei Sheng (Wang An Yu), a talented figure skater who unexpectedly becomes her closest confidant and strongest supporter. What begins as a clash of personalities soon softens into a reluctant friendship, eventually sliding into a fake dating arrangement and a blossoming romance.

As competitive pressures rise and personal struggles mount, both Zheng Yi and Bei Sheng wrestle with their fears and insecurities. Their chemistry is the heart of this drama, and watching them grow, both on and off the ice, makes for a genuinely enjoyable, feel-good series about chasing your dreams and finding someone who believes in you.

    “The Last Immortal”

5 Must-Watch Wang An Yu C-Dramas to Add to Your List If You’re Hooked After ‘Be Passionately In Love’

If you enjoy fantasy dramas with gods, spirits, and ancient grudges, this one’s for you. Based on the novel “Hidden God” by Xing Ling, the story follows Feng Yin (Zhao Lu Si), a young spirit caught in a treacherous world of immortals. She suspects she might be the reincarnation of a powerful goddess, and to learn the truth, she must gather pieces of her lost soul. By her side is Gu Jin (Wang An Yu), the mysterious, stoic son of the highest god. Their relationship is complicated — once master and servant, now reluctant allies. As they travel together, feelings resurface and secrets unravel.

The drama promises plenty of emotional moments, epic battles, and star-crossed romance. It’s reportedly a spin-off of the 2021 hit “Ancient Love Poetry,” so if you loved that, this should be next on your list.

Determined to prove everyone wrong, he sets his sights on Luo Na (Jin Chen), a tough assistant coach at a top university. His plan? Get admitted, join her team, and convince her to train him.

It’s not an easy journey. There are failures, doubters, and moments when quitting seems tempting. But with Luo Na’s tough-love support and his own unwavering heart, Yu Cheng keeps chasing his dream. It’s a motivational, heartfelt drama about resilience, passion, and proving that sometimes, heart matters more than natural talent.
