3 Tricky Situations That Arose In Episodes 3-4 Of “Law And The City”

Everyone’s new favorite legal K-drama is giving viewers everything and more! In this week’s episodes of “Law and The City” we got to see Ahn Ju Hyeong (Lee Jong Suk) and Kang Hui Ji (Mun Ka Young) facing different situations that challenge not only their abilities as attorneys, but also as people, now inside the merged Hyungmin law firm. As time goes by, we’ll discover more aspects about them and their group, for example each one’s family background. To understand more of the complexity of the everyday life portrayed in this show, here are some tricky situations they encountered in the latest episodes!

Warning: spoilers from episodes 3-4 ahead!

    1. Ahn Ju Hyeong and Kang Hui Ji recalling their past

The cat is out of the bag! And to everyone’s satisfaction, Ju Hyeong has no choice but to admit he did remember Hui Ji from the very beginning. We see in a flashback how their serendipitous first encounter unfolded, and it seems like there are some unresolved feelings between them, which is clear onscreen every time they look at each other. After all, if they never met again until that moment, it was merely out of a small misunderstanding, and not because they didn’t like each other. The way they resolve this issue is such a breath of fresh air as well, not only because it erases unnecessary drama, but because this also makes them move past any animosity into a more friendly relationship.

This translates quickly to Hui Ji relying on Ju Hyeong about a specific case in which her client may or may not have done medical malpractice. This puts Hui Ji in a pickle since she still has strong scruples about taking cases that go against her own principles. It’s contrary to Ju Hyeon, who views every case as work and work alone. Although this case highlights their different approaches at work, he still helps her and finds a convincing way to resolve her doubts with the help of none other than Kim Ji Seok (cameo appearance by Yoon Kyun Sang), Ban Mun Jeong’s (Ryu Hye Young) husband. Nonetheless, there’s still the question about whether their differences will bring them together or only further apart.

    2. The legal team dealing with family issues in and outside court

Speaking of which, in these episodes we get an interesting depiction of how, many times, both work and personal life intertwine together. Despite the fact that attorneys might appear cold-hearted or calculating, at the end of the day, they are also human. Their struggles, circumstances, and family issues can affect their work as well. For example, Mun Jeong gets a bad streak throughout the whole day, which puts her in a gloomy mood for a long time. However, later on we see how she is also struggling with getting pregnant, something many modern women can also relate to.

On the other hand, when Ha Sang Gi (Im Seong Jae) takes a case relating to a man seeking compensation after his wife’s passing, the show gives a glimpse that the reason he works so hard but lives so frugally might have to do with his own family. On the same note, Cho Chang Won (Kang You Seok) is cornered by both his father and his boss. While his father constantly insists on him working for a prestigious company, his boss forces him to visit a rich brat in jail, bringing down his spirits either way. All of them show what true adulthood is: living everyday while enduring the harsh reality. Nonetheless, it isn’t excessively depressing to watch, since they still have their friends by their side to share a good meal and talk it all out at the end of the day.

     3. Ahn Ju Hyeong taking his ex-girlfriend’s divorce case

Even when everyone seems to be dealing with a lot on their hands, it is Ju Hyeong who probably got the worst of it. He not only gets assigned a divorce case, something he apparently hates to do, but the defendant ends up being his ex-girlfriend, so now he has no choice but to fight against her in court as her husband’s attorney. This time, as much as he would like, he can’t be completely objective about his work. He inevitably gets swayed seeing that she is under such a precarious situation, unable to get proper compensation from her divorce despite the fact her husband is a scumbag.

Admittedly, I love Ju Hyeong showing his skills as an attorney. But the whole situation starts to bother him, especially when Hui Ji confronts him about how stupid he is by taking the case. By the time everything is settled and the ex-husband shows just how much of a jerk he truly is, Ju Hyeong finally snaps. And it is such a relief because, as hot as he looks while being professional, nothing beats seeing his fierce rebuttal. These episodes might have brought a lot of ups and downs for our squad, but that doesn’t mean the excitement is over just yet. On the contrary, things are barely starting to get interesting for everyone, so stay tuned for what’s next in “Law and The City”!
